"We, the People" Published as Letter to the Editor in Jacksboro Gazette News 8/18/09

I try to keep up with current events especially legislation and comments/votes by our elected officials from the federal or state governments. I read a lot of email updates, Twitter updates and a few from Facebook. Sometimes I address my concerns on my website, www.yourpearlsmustalwaysbereal.blogspot.com or I "tweet" on Twitter and sometimes I write editorials.

My hope is to educate the public in the only way that I know how (by writing), so that you know how to get things changed; that you will recognize when things need to be changed and that you need to spread the word to others to do something.

We have been given a great gift in the freedoms that we have. People have fought and died for the freedoms that we take for granted. I know that many of you will be offended that I might be talking to you, but if the shoe fits.... I am talking to each one of you that did not vote in the last election; to each one that does not like the current plan for healthcare reform and has done nothing about it; to each one that voted for President Obama and now sees it as a mistake, but still does nothing to change what he is trying to do with his socialist agenda; to each one that did nothing when the stimulus package was up for a vote; to each one that does not know who his/her representatives are or how to contact them; to each one that does not know what is happening at the Townhall meetings or tea parties going on across the country; to each one that does not question everything that comes from any of the news media.

I do not care if you are Republican or Democrat, Liberal or Conservative, Right or Left or none of those. What I do care about is the way this nation is headed. Do you think that the federal government should take over running our lives on every level? Are we that inept?

A question from a citizen of Pennsylvania on the healthcare bill to Senator Specter was: “What I see is a bureaucratic nightmare, Senator. Medicaid is broke. Medicare is broke. Social Security is broke. And you want us to believe that a government that can’t even run a Cash for Clunkers program is going to run 1/7th of our U.S. Economy?” Add to that the postal service is on the verge of bankruptcy.

Do you think that the citizens of the United States of America can stand more taxes, higher fuel bills, forced healthcare, more support of illegal immigrants, fewer jobs, less savings, fewer basic freedoms like freedom of speech, freedom to bear arms, freedom to protest when our government oversteps its bounds?

I do not think we will survive as the great country that we are without intervention by "we, the people." You and I must let our opinions be known. We must let our elected officials know how we feel and that we will not allow these things to continue. We must let our friends and family know that we must stand for what we believe. We must vote. We must NOT sit idly by while our country is taken over by politicians that don't care what their constituents want and vote for things anyway because of party lines or a misguided support of the president (one really said he would do that.) We must encourage everyone else we know to do the same.

We, the people, must get up out of our chairs and stand for something or the United States as we know it, will fall. This is no longer the status quo. Our doing nothing will have dire consequences this time. The extremist agenda of the current president and majority party will change things forever. President Ronald Reagan said, "The nearest thing to eternal life we will ever see on this earth is a government program."

We must exercise our rights, NOW and protect "we, the people."

  1. Well, my dear friend another blog post that hits a home run. I agree with your words. I saw you said something about some who read this might be offended --- well it is time we in a respectful way stand up not like the liberals as they did with George Bush. Some are calling town hall attendees terrorists, Nazi's and other words that are appalling. Some who read this might take a look for videos, posters and other methods used by the left against George Bush and than look in the mirror to see themselves especially if they were one who supported what those radicals did. It was appalling. You know me -- I sit not in my chair as a passive silent citizen. My representative and both senators hear from me I am sure more than they would like to but sobeit. As you say it is past time that "we the people" let our voices be heard. This is like 1776 all over again! Britain wanted to control the people and they said NO! -- All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent. Thomas Jefferson --- in some cases today the silence is deafening! It is time we think as "Americans" first and the parties be damned. Both of them are working to keep us divided and have done so forever. This upcoming election we better ALL vote and as you said vote as God's word would lead you. Jeremiah 17:5 Thus saith the Lord, Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord. Evidence of this took place in November 2008 - Read I Samuel 8 & 9 - the people asked for a king - how any Christian could vote for Obama amazes me when he supports abortion and homosexuality which are clearly against God's word. You mentioned the postal service going bankrupt --- Obama mentioned FedEx and UPS in a positive light at a town hall meeting this week. And the postal service works for him. Might they be in line for "change". And on healthcare I heard a lady today talking about her husband who is in a union. In the contract they signed a few years ago there is a comment that if government healthcare comes the employer will commence a discussion to negotiate new contract terms --- losing their current insurance and having to go on the government plan. On another note today the Green Czar Van Jones who is a self declared communist has started a boycott pressuring advertisers of the Glenn Beck program to suspend their advertising. Sounds like the Chicago mob to me. The town hall meetings are an indication that people are "awakening" and this needs to gain momentum. The words resonating in my mind come from 9.11 and United Flight 93 - Todd Beamer said these words -- LET'S ROLL. It is time we stand and be counted.
In closing let these words sink in:
"I have sworn upon the altar of God, eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man." --Thomas Jefferson*
Keep the blogs coming - they energize me and you have been given a gift that is evident in your insightful writings.
    Your friend Bob
